In the opening of Ted Hughes's classic book, The Iron Giant, the iconic title character comes to the edge of a cliff by the sea, where his eyes shine out into the dark like headlamps. With a diffuser resembling the Fresnel lens used in lighthouse beacons, the Hughes single-light wall sconce pays tribute to his loveable creation. These sconces could be nautical lighting fixtures on a steel boat; they could be playful re-imaginings of industrial elements in a contemporary style; or, they could be the iron giant's eyes peering out into the mist, the half-dome slipping over the diffuser a metal eyelid.
